We developed a custom, open-source content management system that offered them far geater flexibility to edit and manage their content than the previous CMS they were using.

We completed the original job in less than 2 months – just in the nick of time before their previous vendor shut the door.

Shortly after that, we completed the programming for an entire design refresh on the site. The refresh included a mobile responsive version of the site and introduced a number of new features such as: trail ratings, trail comments, user generated content submissions, weather forecasts for each individual trail, and an advanced search functionality to help users find a trail that matched their capabilities.

Mobile app integration

The OTC had contracted another developer to build them a mobile app. We worked together with that developer to create an API that would allow them to directly access the trail database so that there was a single source of trail data, instead of the mobile app having to maintain it’s own database.

By the numbers...

While not the largest site we’ve worked on, the Ontario Trails site is certainly up there in our top 5. Migrating the data for 2,200 trails was no small task, especially within such a small window, but it’s the kind of detail oriented work that we thrive on. When the dust settled on our mad-dash to beat the clock, the new site re-launched without a hitch.
